How do you know when to leave a relationship?

How do you know when it’s time to leave a relationship? Sometimes, the answer is already there, deep down — it’s just hard to admit.

Here are some signs to keep an eye on:

  1. You feel drained, not energized. If you’re constantly feeling more tired than uplifted, that’s a big red flag. Relationships should feel like a safe space to recharge, not another source of stress.

  2. Your needs aren’t being met. Respect, love, honesty — they’re all basic essentials, not “bonuses.” If you find yourself explaining or justifying why you’re settling, it’s time to reflect on what you deserve.

  3. Growth feels one-sided. A healthy relationship is one where you’re both growing, supporting each other’s journeys. If it’s always you putting in the work, you’re not just in a relationship; you’re in an emotional hustle.

  4. You’re more focused on potential than reality. If you’re constantly saying, “they’ll change” or “things will get better,” be cautious. Love the person as they are, but don’t be stuck on who they “could” be.

  5. You feel like you're losing yourself. When you can’t recognize yourself or feel like you’re constantly shrinking who you are, it’s a sign the relationship might be holding you back.

Leaving isn’t easy, but staying when you know you’re not valued takes a much higher toll. You deserve to be in a relationship where you’re celebrated, not tolerated. And remember, taking that step towards your peace is the real glow-up.
